We are first to create an edge cloud as a miniaturized version of the public cloud stack with such a small footprint that it can reside in smartphone applications, or IoT devices as well as in an on-premise data center, virtual machine on any cloud infrastructure or in a Network Attached Storage (NAS).
The technology becomes an edge cloud platform since data flows seamlessly between the edge and the public cloud and our SDK manages network discovery and network communication to the API’s making sure to always use any available edge clouds and seamlessly switch to the public cloud whenever needed. This changes everything – as it brings a seamless experience between edge and public clouds with exceptional response times while hiding all complexities for developers. Its ability to automatically discover and use edge clouds powered by our edge cloud platform also makes it possible to invent entire new applications and product categories such as zero configuration NAS for homes and offices. User experience can be improved with a built in cache of frequently used objects and a complete cache of all meta data including the entire file system hierarchy for mobile apps. This also makes it possible to handle workloads on the edge cloud that previously was not suited for the cloud such as large scale IoT data aggregation, artificial intelligence, and applications which operates in low bandwidth and low latency environments.
The edge cloud is multi-tenant and can also be configured as an isolated private cloud to comply with data residency requirements or regulatory requirements for sensitive data – shielded from the public cloud. It also brings accessibility and resilience to applications as a core element. Users are enabled to login off-line and in case an edge cloud is not accessible applications will automatically discover and connect to the public cloud.
In addition, it can turn devices into purpose built devices that can transfer data to and from the public cloud, cluster with other edge cloud devices or appliances to form on-premises storage, integrate with other applications, analytic tools, AI, or new disruptive technologies that can benefit from higher throughput using an edge cloud as a cloud accelerator.
